    Mega:Bears qb situation...

How do you feel about Brian Greise? Turner is supposed to be meeting with him today.

I'm not mega, but IMO...Greise is too much of a statue in the pocket and the Bears need someone w/a little mobility--Grossman's not a scrambling QB mind you, but he is mobile. Greise is one of those guys who has won in the league and could be a good influence on Orton & Grossman as the veteran 2nd string QB to help teach them more about the league that he's been through that they don't understand yet.

ESPN radio made it sound like a done deal. Said he would come in to challege Rex for the starting job. He looked pretty good last year before the injury.

    Re: Mega:Bears qb situation...

Rex is their man, Griese would be the backup...I think Orton sucks and never will be any good so I have no problems with Griese coming in. Orton's problem is hes not all that smart, doesnt work nearly as hard as Rex and is very inaccurate(more accurate than either Vick but the nfl game is different). This is Rex's last year of his rookie contract, I think he will start the whole year, if it doesnt work out then you may see Griese starting in 07. No I dont think Griese is great by any stretch of the imagination but hes better than Chris Simms and thats good enough to get us in the playoffs with a good defense. Im really shocked that Griese completes 61% of his passes, something like 69% over the last 2 years, thats amazing. The bears would still be a run first team with a good defense just like Tampa was so I think its a good fit to be honest. I really feel like Rex is the future, but durability is an issue.

Who else really has 2 good(decent) quarterbacks, very few teams do. Maybe Vick and Schaub, Pennington and Ramsey(HAHAH), Lefwich and Garrard......there are few and far between decent backups in the league. Griese is worth the moeny even if they have to overpay. I cant watch anymore Kyle Orton.

I dunno, you know how some people are born winners? Greise is a born loser.

If I was Chicago, I would have went after some of the veteran backup's QB on the market, all except Greise. Garcia would have been a great backup to Grossman, but Philly got him.

Garcia is horrible, I watched plenty of Detroit games last year. There is a reason hes been on 3 teams the last 3 years.

63.1 completion percentage 103/78 td-int ratio and a former pro bowler, Griese is definietly good enough to be a backup. Hell he was a starter last year and was 5-1. All they are looking for is a guy to take over if God forbid Rex gets hurt again. Griese is a better option than Aaron Brooks, Garcia, McCown....Im thinking only Kitna was a better option and hes getting paid to be a starter.

Griese wasnt the ultimate loser when he was winning a national title was he?

    Re: Mega:Bears qb situation...

Im just saying he has won before, there are plenty of guys that arent going to win the superbowl. He went to the playoffs with a real talented Denver team and was a pro bowler. With the dolphins he played under Wannstedt so Im not even going to go there, and with Tampa they were headed for the playoffs and did make the playoffs last season. Of course hes not a savior, I hope he never sees the field but I feel he is more than capable of being a good backup and is better than what most teams have.

I know you like Garcia since he played with the niners and ill admit he was darn good, I would have wanted him on my team years ago.

Heres why the bears want a guy like Grise over Garcia

-The bears are a run first team and griese has been successful in that type of offense.

-They run alot of timing routes, almost every other play is a slant somewhere(Rex is great at this) I think Griese would be better in this area because he has a bigger arm and is taller.

-The chicago weather is tough to throw in come December, having a strong arm is important. Garcia and McNown have about the same arm strength and I just dont think Garcia could cut it.

-While Griese does throw too many interceptions, Garcia is just reckless with the ball, either when he is running or passing.

Im not saying Garcia is god awful but I feel he is past the glory days when Owens helped him look better than what he was. Griese has had 2 of his best seasons the last 2 years(before getting hurt) and I just feel like he is a better fit. I think Frerrote would have been a decent fit too.

Well, I agree that Garcia has went downhill, a lot.

I just cant really picture Gresise being real helpful off the field to Grossman, Greise, to me, comes off arrogant.

I dont think Rex needs any help from Griese. Rex and Ron Turner have a real good relationship. He is one of those fanatics that spends every second studying film. Hes a true student of the game. I feel like he will be real good, only time will tell. I guess I could be wrong but Im usually pretty good at judging quarterbacks. I could care less about Griese as long as Rex stays healthy.
